Rackspace is helping businesses move workloads off premise and onto the cloud through new professional services offering launched on Monday.
The new offer, called Global Solutions and Services (GSS), couples enterprises and mid-market firms with Rackspace architects and engineers to plan, design, migrate, and manage their cloud journey. The services include front-end assessments and guidance, to full migration services and ongoing operational support, according to the company, and are available globally to Rackspace customers and non-customers.
“As more businesses look to move IT operations out of the data center, they recognize that they need help transitioning to multi-cloud models,” Rachel Cassidy, vice president of Global Solutions and Services at Rackspace said in a statement. “In response to customer demand, we’re expanding our managed cloud portfolio to offer professional services not only to the SMB and mid-market customers we have served for nearly two decades, but also to our fast-growing stable of enterprise customers.”
The professional services will be provided across cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform on the public cloud side, with VMware, Microsoft, and OpenStack on the private cloud side.
The offering comes months after Rackspace president Jeff Cotten told Talkin’ Cloud that managed AWS was its fastest growing business the company has ever had.
By doubling down on professional services and supporting multi-cloud environments, Rackspace is right in line with market trends, according to 451 Research.
“This seems to be a timely offering in keeping with market trends we’re seeing,” Melanie Posey, research vice president, cloud transformation, at 451 Research said in a statement. “The drivers behind many organizations’ IT transformation efforts – whether toward all-in public cloud or hybrid – are beginning to change. While overall cost savings remain important, other factors such as improved time to market and business agility are equally compelling drivers toward a different type of IT infrastructure environment. As the trend continues, organizations will increasingly seek out external assistance to guide them through the transformation.”
The Rackspace team will include Portfolio Solution Architects, who provide guidance to customers on which solutions serve their needs, while Specialist Solution Architects offer deep expertise on specific cloud technologies.
Rackspace said it is working with strategic partners to augment its expertise.
